Kingfisher Folly

I seem to be at a loss about what to do for holidays this year. It's definitely the area that I'd like decisions and plans made for me (lovely plans of course). I've run out of steam for all the planning and decision-making, the figuring-out that goes into a holiday. Those are the very actions I want a break from! As always, Unique Home Stays is fuels my imagination. I'd love to be transported away to one of their restful retreats. A pile of books and a case of wine, water to dip my toes in and lush walks to go on. It's all a dream. Kingfisher Folly is calling my name.

    1. We would just call them flagstones - but that's generic for any kind of stone cut in this way. My guess would be limestone here.

  4. I can't remember whether I told you already Jane - but it was thanks to you that I booked a short holiday here http://www.uniquehomestays.com/unique/details.asp?id=783 with Unique Home Stays last year! It was delightful. Their properties really are unique - so carefully selected and rich in detail, beauty and integrity...in fact your own home would fit in very nicely on their books :) I find it almost as exciting to wander through some of their properties and plan an entire imaginary itinerary - an artist's workshop in a Cotswold manor, a gardening retreat in Horsington Grange in Somerset, or a family get together in Minstrels Manor at Hay-on-Wye, Wales...and my particular favourite...a short (or a very long) break just for two, at The Beach Hut North Cornwall (this dream relies heavily on Ryan Gosling being my plus one :)
Now - I think its time for me to consult my Dreams versus Reality chart

    1. You did - I live vicariously through you!! The Beach Hut North Cornwall is one of my favourite properties on their books too. I very much wish I had been able to stay there when I was in that part of the world last year!

  5. Hey we are on the same page. I was just thinking how I wanted to take a vacation, and how I should write you and ask for tips on traveling alone; like what type of hotel you get as a single lady. This is a nice little insight to that. I've traveled alone a lot, but always to go visit someone... so this is new to me.. I think it's an american thing..

    1. Yes - this is a great non-budget option. I also like cozy B&Bs (European B&Bs tend to be pretty nice and pretty affordable). And it's always nice to splurge on a fancy hotel (with a fancy spa!) if you can afford it. Like you, I often stay with friends, but there is something amazing about checking into a hotel on your own... it's kind of like buying fine jewelry for yourself - it feels a little strange, but good strange!

    2. That is great. Sometimes friends are too busy and it would be so good to be spontaneous.

  7. Oh yes, please take me with you! I don't really feel like an adventure holiday this year, I've done quite a few of those kinds of trips. I want to go somewhere where I can do nothing but read, like you.
